So, lets talk shoes. By now you have determined that if there is one thing I will talk about forever, it is shoes. It is true, I do love them. However, there is an ever-present elephant in the room when it comes to my love for shoes, and that would be the brogue. Personally, I hate them. I think they are cute on men, but for women, yuck. I don't know, I guess I can open my mind to many looks; however, even I have to draw the line somewhere. I guess part of my issue is that I am already not a big fan of flats. Measuring in as short as I am, I certainly don't want to add insult to injury by highlighting my height with a flat shoe. I think what makes brogues worse is that they are so damn masculine and overbearing. I have seen them paired with jeans, skirts, shorts, dresses, and every time I see them I try to convince myself it looks good, but I don't it doesn't work for long. So, what does this really mean?
Well, I say this because I wanted to make a larger point about fashion. Something I see more and more is that everyone jumps on a bandwagon just because it is the new "it" thing. Think about ipods, iphones, skinny jeans, the Atkins diet. All of these things got a lot of attention and people flocked to them before really thinking about the consequences of their action. I am not one of these people generally. I really like to be sensible about my purchases because I want to ensure it is something that fits my personality. I did not have an ipod until maybe two or three years ago. I saw what the capabilities of the ipod were and then I bought a Dell Pocket DJ. Honestly, I loved the Dell version, it worked just as well as an Ipod for much cheaper. The only reason I replaced it with an ipod is because one of my cords broke and I couldn't replace it. I think that type of approach to style is important also. Some looks that will come and go will not fit every body type, image, pocketbook, but that doesn't make you a looser because you have a bit of a tummy and you can't wear a bandeau. It just makes you different and you have the option to avoid certain styles because they do nothing for you. I will never wear brogues, if nothing else because I don't like them, but also because they will make my legs look stumpy and short. Just like a really tall girl should probably avoid really high heals. What is the sense in being taller than everyone else when you are already tall? Perhaps it gives off the vibe that you think you are better than others? I made that up, but you catch my drift.
The fun thing about fashion is that it allows us to be creative. People will always judge and be mean because that is how some people just are. That shouldn't change how you feel about yourself and your choice of how you represent yourself. You don't have to be punk everyday because you listen to punk music, or dress preppy just because your friends do. You can be whoever you wish.
To that end, enjoy life because we only live once...and that was my public service announcement.
