Five Cosmetic Purchases Worth The Price

So, since my blog is relatively new and I want to reach out to that audience I know is out there looking to stay fashionable and fresh for less, I decided perhaps I should start a tradition of Cosmetic Tuesday. Each Tuesday will have at least one entry of cosmetic-related material. Today, since it is our first day, I will have two! So here it goes.

1. Too Faced Absolutely Flawless Concealer $20.00 at Ulta (in-store or online at ulta.com)

I mentioned this product previously, and obviously I love it because I am posting again. This product is a little higher in price, especially for the size of the tube, but I can't stress enough how great it is. The concealer is thick and provides full coverage without looking cakey. I tend to just put a little larger than a pin prick to start and add more as I need it depending on the area. It really is a great product!

2. Benefit Eye Bright $20.00 at Ulta (in-store or online at ulta.com)

I have this product in two separate containers. One is a pencil and one is a pot. I actually prefer the pot to the pencil, but they were selling the pots with a sample of their under eye concealer, so I am not certain you can find it anymore. You can't get it online, I just checked. In any case, this stuff is great. One trick I learned in researching coverage for under eye circles is that to mute the blue and green hues that show up under your eyes is pink. Yes, that makes a purply color, but this product has enough coverage to leave you with a mild pinky color before adding your regular concealer. I like to apply it to the creases where the color shows and up into the bottom of my lash line right under my lashes. Keep in mind, the only reason your eyes show up dark is from shadows that darken your eyes because of baggy under eyes. If you cover the those creases or where the shadows show, it should help reduce the darkened effect. You don't need to apply this product to your whole under eye. Another use I like for this product is highlight my bone structure. I generally apply a little bit of this product to the sides of my nose and where my cheek meets my nose to make my nose appear slimmer reducing swelling from allergies. It works great!

3. Benefit Bad Gal Mascara $19.00 at Ulta (in-store or online at ulta.com)

I have fairly long lashes, so I am going to be honest when I say I don't know what it means to try to elongate them or whether that even works from mascaras. However, I do have to say that I love this mascara for the way it separates my lashes and coats on a nice thick coverage. I think the brush does the trick and I love it. It is a fairly thick and large brush that is narrow at the bottom and quickly gets wider as it goes up the wand. The mascara tube is very large and holds a lot of product. I wear this everyday and have not used another mascara in probably three years. I highlight recommend it compared to the line of Smashbox mascaras and Studio Gear mascaras.

4. Urban Decay eye pencils $18.00 at Ulta (in-store or online at ulta.com)

I will give a word of caution with these eyeliner pencils before raving about them. I have found that depending on the color, some pencils are smeary compared to others. I love colored eye liners because I have green eyes and a nice green or purple really pops my eyes. I first purchased the deep purple color (Flirt) and found that it stayed put and showed such a beautiful purple. However, after having such success I went out and bought the black pencil. I was unpleasantly surprised at how that pencil was too soft and smudged almost instantly. It was fine after smudging on purpose, but if you are looking for a sleek straight line, it will not last. I did end up buying the stash pencil (dark green, not forest green though) and it is great. I wear that pencil most times because it is the same color as my eyes. Overall, I think testing the pencils before purchasing to see if they have your desired dryness or softness is a good bet. At most stores they have samples to test and this will allow you to know if it meets your expectations.

5. Too Faced eye shadow palettes - Approximately $35.00 at Ulta depending on the palette set. Available at Ulta (in-store or online at ulta.com)

I know it sounds high in price, but as you can see from the picture, you get three different looks you can change around to your preference in eye shadow design. I actually have two; the Romance kit and the Naked Eye kit and I love them both. What I like best about these palettes is that you pay around $35 dollars for six eye shadows and they come with little cards to teach you how to get the look intended. They go with most eye colors and the eye shadow is great for blending. The Naked Eye kit is great if you like a subtle look, the Romantic eye is less subtle, but beautiful for an evening out or just a more dramatic day look. If you get some of them, they come with a little brush also.

That's it for this installment of Cosmetic Tuesday. I hope I provided you all with some great products for your next make-up shopping trip. Have any good make-up items of your own, add a comment at share!
