I received a question today on my under eye circle post. The question was...

Any cheaper alternatives to Benefit's eye bright?
Thanks for the question! My answer to this is absolutely!
I'll be honest, the Benefit Eye Bright is a fantastic product that I love, but yes, it is a bit pricey for a pencil. However, the truth about Eye Bright is that it is a highlighter! Sure, I use it for a different purpose, but really this means that any highlighter in pink will work! I am going to list two alternatives below. I haven't used either one for this purpose, but I have used other products by the brands and I think with a little bit of testing in the store, you can find a great alternative that saves some money!
1. NYX Jumbo Pencils - $4.50 at Ulta or on their website
As I mentioned in a separate post, the jumbo pencils are actually made to be used as an eye shadow. I tend to use them as an eye shadow primer. However, I don't see why you can't use them for under your eye. They have the same consistency as the Eye Bright. I think the larger task will be choosing the right color. If you look at the picture above, the second color in is Lavendar. If you notice, it is a rather light color. I think that it could possibly work if it is really as pink as it shows in the picture. It is definitely hard to tell if you will notice from the swatch of the lavendar below, but I think if you go into the store and check it out, you can be better certain about its effectiveness. If you go into an ulta or your local store that sells NYX products, try it on your hand. If it comes across pretty purple, avoid it. You don't want to mix purple in with the under eye color or it will just make it worse. However, if it is pinkish and blends well with your skin, it should work very well! Otherwise, I might also take a look at their Iced Mocha. It is a beige, but it seems pinkish to me as well. Here are the two colors from their website.

2. Physician's Formula
I didn't list a price for Physician's Formula because you have a couple options here. Physician's Formula is definitely a more accessible brand. They carry it at Walgreens, Walmart, Target, and Ulta. They have been in business for a while even though they remain fairly unknown. However, they are probably the first brand besides Neutrogena to first offer alternative colors for concealer. I know you know what I am talking about, the green, yellow or pink alternative? I think the green and the yellow can be quite overwhelming and hard to use, so I avoid them; however, the pink is exactly what we want.
The first product they offer comes in a set with a green and pink or a yellow and pink. It is called Mineral Wear® Talc-Free Mineral Correcting Concealer. You can use the other products with the pink, but as you can see the pink is the highlighter. The product runs for $8.95 for the set on their website. However, I believe you can probably find just the pink in the store.
3. Almay
I didn't place a price for this one too, but I know you can buy the product from Walgreens. It is called Almay Bright Eyes Liner/Highlighter Duo. Essentially, this is a eye highlighter and a pencil in one. I bought one a year ago and really liked some parts of it. I was using as a contour pencil of which I will admit I am not skilled with using.
If I may interject into our discussion with a personal note, I have a nose I do not love. This is mostly because I suffer from horrible allergies including hay fever. When the summer comes, I have to play host to my allergy nose. This means that my nose seems to widen and swell wider a bit. So, in the summer, I like to add some eye bright on the sides of my nose and line the top on both sides with a very sheer line of brown to contour the shape and hide the swelling. It works well, but I must say I am not trained in how contouring really works. Still, I get my results and I am happy. That is why I bought this product. I have the pinkish color and brown. They call it dark chocolate and shell. The shell has a bit of sparkle to it, so I might opt for the champagne and soft black if I were you. The champagne appears more pink than ivory and doesn't appear to have the sparkle the shell does. The pencil is fairly soft, but I will warn you that not all pencils are created equally. I will explain...
I don't usually buy Almay products because I don't like the wood they fill with the color for the pencils. It is really rough and sharp and my sharpener hates it. So, you have to be rather careful when sticking a pencil from their brand near your eye. If it isn't sharp, I wouldn't use the pencil alone, I would use your finger or a small concealer brush to apply it. Also, sometimes pencils dry out a bit and you can do nothing about it when you purchase it. By the time you notice it, the product is already open and you can't return it. However, if you put a lighter to it to soften it a bit you can render good results, but again, be careful, don't put a hot pencil near your eye. The other option aside from a lighter is putting the pencil in a hot room or on top of a hot surface. If you have a a gas stove, you can generally place the pencil on top of center part between the range tops. That surface generally stays warm and can melt the pencil to a perfect consistency in a couple of minutes.
Those are the alternatives I can offer today; however, if I come across new and better options I will post them as I find them. Also, please share your own if you have any!
