I digress...so, when I was working I used to telecommute on Wednesdays. While I was a good little worker at home, I would often designate that day to do my nails. I called it Nails Wednesday. Of course I had to change telecommute days here and there, so it would become Manicure Friday or Pedicure Tuesday, but generally it was Nails Wednesday. Then, this expanded. On Sundays I generally go to my mom and sister's condo for dinner and Poppy's Buttons work, so that became Button Sundays. So, as you can imagine, Cosmetic Tuesday was just a natural moniker for that installment of Sense and Frugality.
This week for Nails Wednesday, I decided to try another crackle look. I actually wore the newspaper nails for two weeks with very little chipping until maybe this past Monday, so it was definitely time for a change. I call this crackle style Heart of the Ocean after the necklace in Titanic. When you see it, I know you are all probably going to think I am off a bit because it probably should be silver and blue, but it actually has some nostalgic meaning. When I went to prom, it was a couple years after the movie came out. I picked a really deep blue dress with black accents. I wish I had a picture handy, but they are all in storage. In any case, it was almost navy blue, but had some green in it. It was very pretty. When I needed jewelry to go with the dress, my mother picked out a necklace that looked like just like the Heart of the Ocean. So, because my dress was blue and black like this look, I call it that.
The products I used were:
1. Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Black Out (28)
2. Pure Ice Crackle in Strike a Pose
3. Revlon's No chip, top coat (950).
I only needed on coat of black, but I went back and a did a second to make it more substantial. I then covered it with a thick coat of the crackle because I don't love a ton of cracks with crackle. I feel that when you use a thicker coat it is more Piet Mondrian-esque. If you don't recall elementary school art, he was the painter who was big into primary colors, geometric shapes and thick black lines. BTW, I didn't know that off of the top of my head, I had to look up which artist fit the type of style I was thinking, although I wish I could have done that.
Here is what it looked like on my nails
