The Scar Eraser - Vitamin E

Because I missed Cosmetic Tuesday yesterday, I thought I should at least cover one facial aesthetic item today. It is a family secret, but I am not going to claim all of the fame for my family. I wouldn't want to be the Al Gore in the room claiming I invented the internet when clearly Vitamin E and its healing power has been known for a very long time. Still, not a lot of people know this and I want to bring it back.

When I was five I first learned about how great vitamin E capsules can be. I was a bit of a tomboy, but probably the best dressed one to date. My mother would put me in little dresses and black patented leather mary janes and send me to play with my friends outside. On, one occasion I was at a friends house across the street from my own playing pirates or something of that nature. To ensure my believability for being a pirate, I chose the largest branch in the yard I could find to be my sword. I remember it being longer than I was in height, almost as thick as my tiny arms and had branches all over it. As I started to play, running and jumping about my mother could see that what I was doing was a bad idea. I was and still am the clumsiest person in the world. I mean clumsy like Lindsey Lohan in Just My Luck or Martin Short in Pure Luck (yes I brought it back to 1991 showing my age). So, my mother yelled out, "Mish, don't run with that stick." Of course I had to turn to see what she was saying, tripped over the grass and fell on the stick. I got a branch up the nose, mouth and eye. I was bleeding like crazy and they ran me to the pediatrician who suggested we go to him rather than the emergency room. I guess he was worried they were going to break my tiny nose to reset it. I ended up with a broken nose, black eye, bruised gums, and a split lip on the left side of my face. It was horrendous and I cried because I had a ballet recital the next day. As my wounds began to heal my mother noticed that I was starting to develop a huge scar right over my top lip. To remedy this, she bought a bottle of vitamin E tablets. She would put a pin-sized hole in the capsule and use the vitamin E oil to apply to my scar.

Fast forward each year after that and the scar began to shrink significantly. Today, you would never know that happened. The scar is completely gone with not even color to show.

So, I tell that story to prove how great vitamin E is as a healer. It is so strong that after you put the hole in the capsule it will seal itself in only an hour or so. So, next time you find a scar you dislike on your face, legs, arms, etc. use some vitamin E and apply it to the scar every day. I guarantee you it will begin to shrink and disappear. It may take some time, but it will eventually go away.

If you do go an purchase it (can be purchased at Walgreens or any other drugstore), make sure you buy the soft gels or else it will not work. They come in a bottle like the picture above and the capsules are about the size of a jelly bean. They are almost a honey color. All you need is a safety pin or needle to puncture it and you can squeeze the oil right on the scar. Just make sure you don't put any clothing over it. You can probably put a band aid just to make sure you don't get the oil on your clothing, it can be a bit sticky. Happy scar erasing! Oh, and this doesn't work with acne scarring! Please do not try that. Since what makes acne is oils, adding more oil just doesn't seem tome to be a good idea unless you ask a dermatologist their advice first.
