Don't you hate it, you wake up some mornings and it looks as if you have a crayola drawing under your eyes. It happens for a lot of reasons, lack of sleep, allergies, stress, too much salt intake. It is a rude awakening telling us that perhaps we need to adjust something in our life to make sure we look and feel our best. However, things happen and mistakes are made, but that doesn't solve the problem immediately, does it? I say not.
So, lets start by discussing where these under eye circles come from. I know it looks like you have broken blood vessels, but in actuality this isn't true. Under eye circles are actually shadows created by the bags that set in under your eye. To remove them, we need to work with some tricks we learned in art school. That's right ladies, it is a very accurate description to call someone who does make-up, a make-up artist. They work with reflection of light and bone structure to compliment what you have and how the light hits your face to make you look gorgeous with their palette of paints and pencils.
The first trick is avoiding the use of skin toned concealers first. The problem with these concealers is that they don't actually absorb the color and work with it, they just cover it. This means that unless you get something really thick with a lot of coverage, you are still going to see the lines. Instead, opt for a pinkish color. Although your first inclination would be to think that the pink will mix with the blueish tone under eye and make purple, it really doesn't. Instead it brightens the shadow and neutralizes the color. This will give you a base to add a touch of concealer afterward. You want to apply the pink color right on the line, not on the puffy part under your eye. I use Benefit's Eye Bright. It is a thicker formula coming in pencil form, but it gives you a lot of control when applying. Once you have added your line, blot it into your skin gently.
Add your concealer after, and you should be transformed from sleep looking to bright eyed. If you don't believe me, try one eye all the way through first and then take a step back and look at both eyes. Also, remember, you will probably never erase the color completely, we are after all, not make-up artists. Plus, you are always a harsher critic of yourself than anyone else. In other words, sometimes we see things because we know they are there, not because they are noticeable.
Oooh, and I almost forgot another trick. Do your eye shadow before adding your concealer. The issue with powdery eye shadow is that you are inevitably going to collect some of the particles under your eye. They will most likely gather right under the puffy part. So, if you add your concealer after, you can kill two birds with one stone. Just remember to add your eye liner and mascara afterward or things can get really difficult.
Any cheaper alternatives to Benefit's eye bright?
